The Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri in Italian) is one of the most famous bridges in Venice (Italy). Located within walking distance of the Plaza de San Marcos, links the Doge's Palace in Venice with the former prison of the Inquisition (Piombi), crossing the Rio di Palazzo.
It is a seventeenth century Baroque building which gives access to the dungeons of the palace. Its name from the sighs of prisoners from here, last saw the sky and sea. It has nothing to do with the romantic sense that some authors have used as a poetic device. To access the bridge have to follow the Secret Itinerary from inside the Ducal Palace in Venice.
Known in the world, is photographed by thousands of tourists visiting the city.
